CHENNAI: The state government on Tuesday deferred the Chennai Formula Street Circuit Race scheduled to be held in the city on December 9 and 10 owing to the impact of cyclone Michaung.

A release issued by the state government said that officials of Greater Chennai Corporation and other government departments are engaged in dewatering, rescue and flood relief works and hence the Chennai Formula Street Circuit race scheduled to be held on December 9 and 10 has been deferred by the Tamil Nadu government.

The release also said that normal life of people of Chennai and adjoining areas were affected by the torrential rain and flooding caused by cyclone Michaung.

The maiden street race of the country has been a talking point in the state after critics questioned its conduct at a cost of Rs 40 crore amid alleged fund crunch faced by the state and a major hospital abetting the circuit.
