GCC workers lodge complaint against cattle owner for threatening while catching cow

CHENNAI: The cattle catchers in North Chennai of Tiruvottriyur zone alleged that they were threatened by the cattle owner while catching a cow roaming on the road during the night time.

They have filed a complaint seeking to the police to take action against the concerned individual.

K Navanithakrishnan, who works with the veterinary department, GCC filed a complaint to the higher official at Ennore police station.

The letter noted that, around 11.30 pm when they were involved in catching the cattle roaming on the road at Wimco Nagar, one of the owners assaulted and used inappropriate language against the five workers.

"The individual threatened us to stab if we took away the cattle," he said in the complainant.

He urged the department to act against the person who threatened the corporation workers while cattle catching drive. Meanwhile, the Chennai Corporation has increased the penalty to Rs 10,000 from Rs 5,000 against the cattle owners for letting out their cattle to roam on the road.

Earlier, the local body charged Rs 10,000 if the cattle had been caught for the second consecutive time. Now, it has hiked to Rs 15,000.
