Man killed by history sheeter relative during drunken brawl in Korukkupet

CHENNAI: City Police have arrested a 30-year-old man, a history-sheeter for allegedly stabbing his relative to death in Korukkupet on Tuesday after the latter questioned the accused for drinking and quarreling with his wife often and not going to work.

The deceased, S Palani (50), a casual labourer is a resident of housing board quarters in Bharathi Nagar, Korukkupet. Palani's niece, Anitha lives in the same neighbourhood with her family. On learning that Anitha's husband, Prashanth used to drink and quarrel with her often, Palani went to their house on Tuesday afternoon and reprimanded Prashanth for his behaviour and asked him to go to work and support his family.

Later in the evening, Prashanth got drunk and went to Palani's house and picked up an argument with him. He then stabbed Palani with a knife and fled the scene. Neighbours rushed to Palani's aid and moved him to a hospital where he was declared as brought dead.

Based on a complaint by Palani's family, RK Nagar police registered a case of murder and arrested the accused, R Prashanth. Police said that he already has nine cases against him. He was produced before a magistrate and remanded to judicial custody.
