CHENNAI: The women's wing of the DMK will hold an agitation here on Saturday condemning the failure of the union government to prevent the atrocities committed against women among others in violence-torn Manipur.

A release issued by the DMK said that party general secretary Kanimozhi Karunanidhi would lead an agitation at 4 pm near Valluvar Kottam on July 23 condemning the heart-wrenching atrocity meted out to women in Manipur. Similar condemnation protests would be held at all district headquarters at 10 am Monday.

Remarking that the BJP regime in Manipur had remained a silent spectator which failed to prevent the "insult to motherhood," the DMK high command said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was going on foreign tours instead of making efforts to quell the violence.

Accusing the BJP led union government to failing to prevent the atrocities committed against women in Manipur, the DMK referred to the incident of two Kuki women paraded naked and allegedly raped by armed gang of Meitei men and said that Tamil Nadu Chief Minister cum DMK president M K Stalin had registered his condemnation and dismay even when the violence started in Manipur.

Shortly after the video went viral shaking the conscience of the viewers on social media, Stalin tweeted, "Absolutely heartbroken and appalled by the agonising violence unleashed on women in #Manipur. Where is our collective conscience? The hate and venom are uprooting the very soul of humanity. We must stand united against such atrocities and work towards fostering a society of empathy and respect. The Union Government should take all necessary steps to restore peace in Manipur."
