President nods for the elevation of 5 judges in MHC

The Collegium of the Supreme Court has recommended the names of the five additional judges, to appoint as permanent judges of the MHC.

CHENNAI: The President of India Droupadi Murmu has noded to elevate five additional judges of the Madras High Court as permanent judges.

A notification released on Tuesday, by the Union ministry of law and justice said that the President has offered her consent to elevate Justice A A. Nakkiran, Justice Nidumolu Mala, Justice S. Sounthar, Justice Sunder Mohan, and Justice Kabali Kumaresh Babu as permanent judges at Madras High Court.

The Collegium of the Supreme Court has recommended the names of the five additional judges, to appoint as permanent judges of the MHC.

The Committee of two judges (Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice Sanjiv Khanna) of the Supreme Court constituted by the Chief Justice of India (D Y Chandrachud) has assessed the judgments of the named five additional Judges.

After scrutinized the material documents the committee came to conclusion that the five judges are fit and suitable for being appointed as permanent judges.

Subsequently, a letter was sent to the President's office to avail consent. The president has officially granted consent for the elevation of the five judges.
