Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam distributes free food across South India on World Hunger Day

CHENNAI: Actor-politician Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam on Tuesday served free food to needy people across south India on the occasion of World Hunger Day.

Speaking after providing free meals to the people at Tiruvanmiyur here, N Anand, general secretary of TVK said free food has been provided to around 3.50 lakh people across the state. “Functionaries of TVK provided free food to the poor and marginalised in Kerala, Puducherry, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and other places also. Around 3.50 lakh people are provided food in Tamil Nadu alone,” he said.

He also informed that through ‘Thalapathy Vilaiyillaa Virundhagam’ (Thalapathy’s free kitchen) in 23 places across the State, free breakfast has been provided to the people every day.

“In the future, during the house specials of the TVK functionaries, free food will also be given to the people living in poor houses and roadside. Our party functionaries will also carry out the work of taking the food cooked in the wedding halls to old age homes to prevent wastage,” Anand said.

The new-born party also planned to provide welfare assistance to the poor and marginalised across the state on June 22, on the occasion of party leader Vijay’s birthday. Earlier in the day, on the occasion of World Hunger Day, free food was provided to the poor in all 234 Assembly constituencies on behalf of Vijay’s TVK with the concept of ‘Let’s provide food to the needy’.

Party general secretary N Anand inaugurated the programme near Tiruvanmiyur Marundeeswarar temple on behalf of Chennai South district and later participated in the Samapandhi Virundhu.

Chennai East district president of TVK G Balamurugan also served more than 1,000 people at 20 different locations in his respective area. It may be recalled that last May also, the Thalapathy Vijay Makkal Iyakkam provided free food across the State.
