COIMBATORE: Chepauk Super Gillies recorded its third win in five matches to move up to second in the table with six points of the TNPL here on Thursday.

The four-time champion beat SKM Salem Spartans by 23 runs with seasoned left-arm spinner Rahil Shah emerging as the pick of the bowlers, taking three wickets for 13 runs. Set to chase 157, the Salem side was restricted to 133 for five. Fellow left-arm spinner M Silambarasan was economical, giving away just 10 runs in his spell of four overs while accounting for the scalp of R Vivek.

Earlier, the Super Gillies set a target of 157 runs for Salem in the final league match of the TNPL 2024 at SNR College Cricket Ground, Coimbatore on Thursday. Opting to field first in windy conditions, SKM Salem Spartans capitalized on the situation, as Harish Kumar and Sunny Sandhu struck early to dismiss both openers during the powerplay to put Chepauk on the backfoot right from the start. Baba Aparajith then stepped up to lead from the front, scoring a run-a-ball 41 runs to keep the scoreboard ticking. Nevertheless, Salem’s disciplined bowling attack maintained consistent pressure on the Chepauk batters. After their dismissals, Abhishek Tanwar’s brisk knock of 26*(8), which included four sixes of the final over, propelled Chepauk Super Gillies to a competitive total of 156/7.

Salem utilized six bowlers, with Sunny Sandhu and Poiyamozhi each claiming two wickets, while Harish Kumar and Aushik Srinivas secured one wicket apiece.
