CHENNAI: The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) general council meeting adopted 17 resolutions, tackling a wide range of issues pertinent to the state and nation, on Friday.

The meeting, attended by Vijay and other functionaries, underscored the TVK's commitment to advocating for the rights and welfare of marginalised communities, promoting social justice, and ensuring good governance.

One of the key resolutions passed by the TVK was a vehement demand for the Union government to withdraw the Waqf Amendment Bill.

The party contended that the bill, ostensibly introduced to ensure transparent management of Waqf properties, would in reality deprive Muslims of their rights and create new conditions that would suppress their rights.

The TVK also reiterated its unwavering support for the struggling fishermen of Tamil Nadu.

The party demanded that the Union government provide a permanent solution to the problems faced by these fishermen, who have been subjected to relentless attacks and killings by the Sri Lankan Navy over the past four decades.

The TVK emphasised that it would go to great lengths to safeguard the interests of the fishing community.

Other significant resolutions passed by the TVK included a strong opposition to the construction of a new airport in Parandur, advocacy for the continuation of the bilingual policy in Tamil Nadu, and a demand for the devolution of powers to state governments.

The party also called for the establishment of special fast-track courts to investigate sexual assault cases and urged the government to desist from deceiving its employees, teachers, and workers.

Furthermore, the TVK condemned the ineptitude of the DMK government in maintaining law and order, demanded a thorough investigation into the Rs 1,000 crore scam in TASMAC, and advocated for a study on conducting a caste-wise census to uphold social justice.

The party also reiterated its commitment to finding a lasting solution to the Sri Lankan Tamil problem through a referendum.

In addition, the TVK resolved to name the International Convention Centre being built in Chennai ECR after Periyar, as a tribute to the revered social reformer.

The party also reaffirmed its allegiance to the principles of its policy leaders and granted its leader, Vijay, full authority to steer the party's affairs.
