BJP State units to elect chiefs in 10 days, says Tamilisai before jetting off to Delhi
Speaking to reporters at the Chennai Airport before leaving for Delhi, Tamilisai revealed that she would meet BJP national president JP Nadda to discuss the prevailing political scenario in the State, with a special focus on the contentious Anna University sexual assault issue.
CHENNAI: HENNAI: Senior BJP leader Tamilisai Soundararajan announced on Tuesday that the party would elect new State presidents across the country within 10 days.
Speaking to reporters at the Chennai Airport before leaving for Delhi, Tamilisai revealed that she would meet BJP national president JP Nadda to discuss the prevailing political scenario in the State, with a special focus on the contentious Anna University sexual assault issue.
Tamilisai took a swipe at VCK chief Thirumavalavan for protesting against Union Home Minister Amit Shah instead of addressing the pressing concerns surrounding Anna University. She claimed that the VCK leader's priorities seemed misplaced, as he was more focused on scoring political brownie points rather than genuinely advocating for the welfare of students.
Expressing concern over the alarming situation in the State's educational institutions, Tamilisai lamented the lack of strong statements from DMK alliance parties regarding the plight of women.
She contended that the ruling dispensation had failed to provide a safe and secure environment for women to study, forcing the judiciary to intervene in several instances.
The former Governor also trained her guns on the ruling DMK government, accusing it of wrong utilisation of funds allocated for various projects.

Citing the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report, she alleged that funds earmarked for women's empowerment schemes and COVID-related initiatives had been returned unspent.
This, she claimed, was a stark testament to the State government's ineptitude and lack of commitment to the welfare of its citizens. This exposes that DMK's claims of empowering women were nothing more than a myth, she said.
She claimed that it was the BJP that had truly championed the cause of women's empowerment, with several women leaders holding key positions in the party and the government.
Tamilisai's visit to New Delhi is seen as a significant move, as it comes at a time when the BJP is gearing up to revamp its State units ahead of the upcoming elections.
