Arappor Iyakkam accuses Min Raja Kannappan for illegally acquiring govt land worth Rs 411 crore

CHENNAI: Milk and Dairy Development Minister RS Raja Kannappan and his three sons illegally acquired nearly five acres of government land on GST Road at Alandur, which reportedly has a market value of Rs 411 crore, alleged Arappor Iyakkam in a complaint filed with the DVAC on Tuesday.
Reacting to it, the minister said he would take legal action against the organisation.
Jayaram Venkatesan, the convener of the anti-corruption organisation, sought the registration of an FIR against the minister, his sons, and Revenue and Registration departments officials for criminal misconduct, corruption, fraud, cheating, conspiracy, and other relevant sections, and said the government land should be retrieved and used for public purposes.
The land in question is located between Alandur and Nanganallur Metro Stations on GST Road, next to the BSNL Office. It falls under in St Thomas Mount Village, and comprises Survey No. 1353, which is 4 acres and 31,378 square feet, and also Survey No. 1352.
In the complaint, the organisation has included Revenue Department records showing that both these are alienated lands.
The lands on survey numbers 1353 and 1352 were registered in the name of Deccan Fun Island and Hotels Pvt Ltd, owned by Raja Kannappan’s sons Prabhu, Diwakar, and Dilip Kumar. The company had made several deeds to acquire the lands from 1991 to 2018. Though the Alandur tahsildar instructed officials against registering certain survey numbers and the cancellation of already registered deeds, the company was able to register a deed in 2018 redeeming the property from mortgage for a meagre partial sum of Rs 7 lakh.
As per the guideline value fixed by the government, the land is currently worth Rs 11,000 per sqft, which itself works out to a total value Rs 226 crore. But the market value in this location is at least Rs 20,000 per sqft, bringing the total value to Rs 411 crore.
Meanwhile, the Minister said the allegation was raised by concealing the verdicts given by district court and the High Court to malign him and family, and added that he would take legal recourse against it.
