Boost for Tamil Nadu road infra as Gadkari announces new projects

CHENNAI: In a boon for developing road infrastructure and connectivity in Tamil Nadu, the Centre has sanctioned over Rs 150 crore for various projects across the state.
Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari on Friday announced the projects, which aim to enhance regional connectivity, reduce travel time, and promote socio-economic growth.
According to Gadkari, the projects will be implemented under the Central Road Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) scheme. The sanctioned amount will be utilised for widening and strengthening of various state highways, construction of high-level bridges, and improvement of crucial road intersections.

Other projects include the widening of the Mettukadai–Moothampalayam Road in Tirupur (Rs 6.84 crore) and the widening of State Highway 154 (SH-154) in Madurai (Rs 18.29 crore).
The Mehalathur–Pathalapettai Road in Thanjavur and Tiruchy districts has been allocated Rs 20.52 crore, and that of Dharmathupatti–Adalur–Thaandikudi Road in Dindigul Rs 5.8 crore.
The sanctioned projects also include enhancements to the Chennai-Tiruchy-Dindigul Road (NH-45) in Chengalpattu, widening and strengthening of Tirupattur-Singarapet Road in Tirupattur, and road widening works in Tiruvannamalai, Kallakurichi, and Namakkal.
