Kalam's 92nd birth anniversary: Stalin unveils his statue at Anna Varsity
In recognition of his exceptional contributions, Kalam was honoured with the Padma Vibhushan in 1990 and the Bharat Ratna in 1997.
CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on Sunday unveiled the statue of former President of India, Dr A P J Abdul Kalam in the campus of Anna University.
To commemorate Abdul Kalam's contribution towards science and research, the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Stalin unveiled his statue on the occasion of his 92nd birth anniversary (October 15).
"On the birth anniversary of Abdul Kalam, the first citizen scientist of the country, who studies in a prestigious government school, I unveiled his statue in the Anna University campus where he studies and taught, " said Stalin in a social media post.
"The self-confidence of this army of young generation who are studying and progressing will definitely save Abdul Kalam's faith. INDIA excellence on the world stage with a scientific vision, " he added.

Abdul Kalam was born on October 15, 1931 in Rameswaram.
He pursued Aeronautical Engineering at the Madras Institute of Technology (MIT) in Chennai and joined the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
In recognition of his exceptional contributions, Kalam was honoured with the Padma Vibhushan in 1990 and the Bharat Ratna in 1997.
The former President played a pivotal role in India's aerospace and defence research, having been present during the country's first nuclear test, Smiling Buddha.
Notably, October 15 is commemorated as World Students' Day in honour of the notable contributions of Abdul Kalam in the field of education.
