DGP lauds Namakkal police for arresting Haryana ATM burglary gang

COIMBATORE: Director General of Police (DGP) Shankar Jiwal on Wednesday visited the Namakkal Government Medical College Hospital, where an inspector and sub-inspector are undergoing treatment for injuries that occurred while attempting to nab the ATM burglary gang.

He appreciated Komarapalayam Inspector Thavamani and Sub-Inspector Ranjith Kumar and presented them with a bouquet. They were injured in their attempt to secure two members of the seven-member ATM robbery gang on Sept. 27.

Police then gunned down Jumannudin (37) while his accomplice Azar Ali was nabbed by shooting in his leg. The accused persons were attempting to escape in a container truck with cash looted from three ATMs in Thrissur via Tamil Nadu, where they were caught.

Lauding their efforts, the DGP conferred a cash reward of Rs 50,000 to Superintendent of Police S Rajesh Kannan and DSPs Imayavaramban, Murugesan and Raja. In recognition of their efforts, 19 others were awarded Rs 25,000 each. Both the injured cops were rewarded for their bravery.

While addressing the media, the DGP said the arrest of an ATM gang after a chase is a pride for the entire police department in Tamil Nadu. He then met with Inspector General of Police (IG), West Zone, T Senthil Kumar, Salem Range DIG ES Uma, Namakkal District Collector S Uma and Superintendent of Police S Rajesh Kannan.
