CM Stalin hails enduring legacy of CPI veteran Nallakannu
Stalin, who participated in the event, lauded Nallakannu's unwavering dedication to communism's principles and tireless efforts to uplift the marginalised sections of society.
CHENNAI: In a stirring tribute, Chief Minister MK Stalin extolled the exemplary life and legacy of Communist Party of India (CPI) leader R Nallakannu, whose centenary celebrations were held at the Kalaivanar Arangam, on Sunday.
Stalin, who participated in the event, lauded Nallakannu's unwavering dedication to communism's principles and tireless efforts to uplift the marginalised sections of society.
The Chief Minister described the friendship between the Dravidian movement and the Communist movement as a "friendship of principles" that transcends the ephemeral realm of electoral politics.
In his address, Stalin recalled the historical connection between the Dravidian movement and Communism, noting that Thanthai Periyar, the founder of the Dravidian movement, was the first to translate and publish the Communist Party manifesto, penned by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels, into Tamil.
This, Stalin observed, underscored the deep ideological affinity between the two movements.
The Chief Minister also praised Nallakannu's selflessness and his ability to inspire others to work towards a common goal.
He noted that Nallakannu's life was a testament to his unwavering commitment to the values of equality, justice, and social welfare.
Stalin also highlighted Nallakannu's remarkable contributions to the state's social and political landscape, including his tireless efforts to protect the rights of the marginalised and his unwavering opposition to casteism, communalism, and authoritarianism.
Stalin expressed his deep admiration for Nallakannu's remarkable life and legacy, saying, "The centenary gift we can give to Comrade Nallakannu is for democratic forces to work together against casteism, communalism, majoritarianism, authoritarianism, and hegemony. With such unity and one mind, we will walk the path of Nallakannu."
As a token of his esteem, Stalin released a book of poetry collection and an anthem dedicated to Nallakannu's life and legacy.
The event was attended by a galaxy of dignitaries, including MDMK General Secretary Vaiko, lyricist Vairamuthu, scientist Mayilsamy Annadurai, and actor Sivakumar.
