Expect heavy rain in 5 coastal districts of TN on Jan 11

CHENNAI: As the northeast monsoon is likely to withdraw around January 15, as many as five coastal districts will receive heavy rainfall on January 11 (Saturday) due to the cyclonic circulation prevailing over the sea.

Additionally, cold weather prevails over isolated places in the State during the early morning hours that might reduce the maximum temperature level in the coming days.

A cyclonic circulation lies over north Tamil Nadu and the neighbourhood at 3.1 km above mean sea level. Under its influence, heavy rainfall is likely over Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai and Pudukkottai on Saturday. Many places in coastal and adjoining interior districts are likely to receive light to moderate rain for the next two days.

Additionally, due to change in wind flow pattern, ground frost is likely at isolated pockets over the higher hill ranges of The Nilgiris district at night for the next two days. As cold weather continues to prevail in the State, the weather department forecasts mist/ haze in isolated places during the early morning hours for the next few days. Meanwhile, the rest of TN might witness dry weather.

In Chennai and suburbs, the sky condition is likely to be partly cloudy and mist/ haze to prevail in the morning. It might reduce the maximum and minimum temperatures to around 30-degree and 21-22-degree Celsius respectively for the next two days.

According to RMC, the maximum temperatures are likely to be generally near normal to slightly below normal over Tamil Nadu. It’s likely to range between 24-30-degree Celsius over the plains till January 16.
