Library & science center to come up in Coimbatore at cost of Rs 300 crore

CHENNAI: The School Education Department has announced the construction of a library and science center in Coimbatore at the cost of Rs 300 crore.

In the assembly budget session in February, the construction of a library and science center was announced by the Minister of Finance and Human Resource Management.

Additionally, an incubation hub was also planned to nurture start-ups and micro and small industries.

Subsequently, CM MK Stalin announced that the initiatives will materialise in January 2026.

The director of public libraries too requested for financial sanction for the construction of the library at a total area of 1,98,000 sq ft. at Anuparpalayam village of Coimbatore.

Hence, for the funds of Rs 245 crore has been allotted for civil and electrical works of the proposed library, Rs 50 crore for the procurement of books and e-books and Rs 5 crore for procurement of computers, reading accessories related equipment and IT infrastructure.
