Malarkodi removed from AIADMK after arrest in Armstrong murder case

Joint secretary of the party's Triplicane (West) unit Malarkodi Sekar has been removed from her party post and primary membership for bringing disrepute to the party, Palaniswami said in a statement.

CHENNAI: AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS) on Thursday sacked Malarkodi Sekar, advocate and joint secretary of the party's Triplicane (West) unit. She was arrested yesterday in connection with Tamil Nadu BSP chief K Armstrong's murder case.

In a statement, EPS said, "South Chennai North (East) District, Mrs Malarkodi Sekar (Joint Secretary, Thiruvallikeni West Zone Association) is removed from all responsibilities, including the basic membership of the party, from today, for acting contrary to the principles of the party, in a way that disrupts the party's discipline, for defaming the dignity of the party, and causing disrepute to the party."

Further, the leader requested all AIADMK members to not have any contact with Malarkodi Sekar.

The police arrested her on Wednesday for her alleged role in the murder of Armstrong.

The 53-year-old Dalit leader and advocate was hacked to death with machetes by a six-member gang on July 5 near his under-construction house in Perambur. So far, the police arrested 14 persons in relation to the case.

Malarkodi reportedly transferred Rs 50 lakh to the account of G Arul, one of the accused in Armstrong’s murder case.

She was arrested on Wednesday.
