CHENNAI: A petition has been filed with the district special court for the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes against the charge sheet submitted by the CB-CID police in the Vengaivayal case, alleging several inconsistencies.

The petition is filed by the lawyer of three individuals accused in the case, according to a Thanthi TV report.

The litigants have sought a copy of the charge sheet and alleged that the charges made by the investigative agency had several inconsistencies. They have alleged that the CB-CID has framed them without probing them. The accused have also demanded a CBI inquiry, according to a Daily Thanthi report. They have appealed to the special court judge not to accept the charge sheet until their side is heard.

Sudarsan, Muthukrishnan, and Muraliraja, all from the Vengaivayal area from the Dalit community, have been linked to the case of mixing human excreta in the overhead tank supplying water to the Scheduled Caste people living in the area. The charge sheet has charged that Muraliraja spread false information while Sudarsan and Muthukrishnan climbed onto an overhead tank and deliberately mixed human waste into the water.
