TIRUCHY: Tiruchy police on Tuesday arrested one person belonging to a four-member gang, which reportedly hurled a petrol bomb at the house of a (Bahujan Samaj party) BSP functionary at Tiruverumbur in the city a couple of days ago.

Sources said, some miscreants had hurled petrol bombs at the house of Ravichandran (46), president of the Tiruchy district unit of the BSP, during the early hours on Sunday.

Fortunately, no one was hurt in the incident and based on a complaint, Tiruverumbur police registered a case and commenced investigations. The police also brought a sniffer dog squad to the spot. Meanwhile, Ravichandran identified the gang members as P Rahul (22), G Sachin (24), R Rakesh (22) and M Lokesh (24), all from Tiruverumbur. The police launched a manhunt for the gang and nabbed Lokesh on Tuesday and interrogated him. During initial investigation, police found that there was a previous enmity between the gang and Ravichandran as he used to warn them for threatening passers-by and were in the habit of creating public nuisance.

During the interrogation, Lokesh confessed to the police that they wanted to threaten Ravichandran and hence hurled petrol bombs at his house.

Lokesh has been remanded in judicial custody while a search is on for the other three.
