CHENNAI: The Madras High Court (MHC) has said that it is dereliction of duty by the police as no action have been taken against the Ministers and members of the ruling party, who participated in the meeting for eradicating Sanatana Dharma.

Petitioner Magesh Karthikeyan from Thiruverkadu moved the Madras High Court seeking to direct the police department to grant permission for conducting an indoor meeting against Dravidian ideology.

As the police failed to act against those who had uttered inflammatory speech to eradicate Sanatana Dharma, the petitioner is now seeking permission to counter it by conducting a meeting to eradicate dravidian ideology, observed Justice G Jayachandran while dismissing the petition.

On September 2, the sports minister and youth wing secretary of DMK Udhayanidhi Stalin participated in a conclave conducted by CPI to eradicate Sanatana Dharma.

In that event, Udhayanidhi slammed sanatan dharma and equated it with Malaria, Dengue, and Covid-19.

Minister of Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowment, P K Sekar Babu also participated in the event.

Referring to the event, the petitioner sought permission to conduct a counter-conference under the name of eradicating Dravidam.

If the request of the petitioner is acceded, it will cause further disturbance to the peace and tranquillity of the public, who are already fed up by the way some of the fringe groups in support of persons who have taken the oath of office to preserve the spirit of the constitution, act in breach of their oath, wrote the judge.

Person in power should realise the danger of speech unflaring fissiparous tendency and behave responsibly and restrain themselves from propagating views which will divide people in the name of ideology, caste, and religion, wrote the judge.

Instead, they may concentrate on eradicating intoxicating drinks and drugs which are injuries to health, corruption untouchability and other social evil, the judge opined.
