Tamil Nadu has 6.36 crore electors

CHENNAI: The state has a total electorate of 6,36,12,950, with women voters outnumbering male voters by 12.56 lakh, as per the data released by the Election Commission on Monday.

According to the revised voter list, first-time or young voters (aged 18-19 years) account for 10.61 lakh of the electorate, while voters aged 80 years and above comprise 17.65 lakh in the electoral roll. The state's electorate includes 3,11,74,027 male voters, 3,24,29,803 female voters, and 9,120 third-gender voters across 234 Assembly constituencies in 38 districts, according to the integrated final electoral roll of the Special Summary Revision of the photo electoral roll for 2025, with January 1, 2025, as the qualification date.

The roll was published on Monday. In terms of age distribution, the largest group of electors is in the 40-49 age cohort, with 1.37 crore voters. This is followed by the 30-39 age group, which comprises 1.30 crore voters, and the 50-59 age group, with 1.12 crore voters. Voters in the 20-29 age group account for 1.09 crore.A total of 4,78,007 Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) are enrolled in the list, and the state has 3,740 overseas electors. The Sholinganallur assembly constituency in Chengalpet has the highest number of electors, with 6,90,958 (male – 3,45,184, female – 3,45,645, and third gender – 1,290). This is followed by the Kavundampalayam constituency in Coimbatore district, which has 4,91,143 electors (male – 2,43,839, female – 2,47,153, and third gender – 151). On the other hand, the constituency with the lowest number of electors is Kilvelur in Nagapattinam district, with 1,76,505 electors (male – 86,456, female – 90,045, and third gender – 4). The second lowest is the Harbour constituency in Chennai district, with 1,78,980 electors (male – 92,615, female – 86,296, and third gender – 69).

How to apply

According to the chief electoral officer, the continuous update has been in operation since January 6. All eligible persons who complete 18 years as of January 1 this year but don't find their names in the Electoral Roll can apply in the following ways. They can file online by going to the websites http://voters.eci.gov.in and the VOTERS HELP Line mobile app, and they can also apply in person by visiting Electoral Registration Officers by submitting Form 6.
