Transporters strike in Tiruchy leads to Aavin milk shortage in district
These truck owners were said to have not received rent for the past four months and their repeated requests went unheard by the officials.

CHENNAI: Seeking unpaid rental amount, the load van owners and drivers who have been transporting Aavin milk went on strike on Wednesday disrupting supplies briefly.
However, they called off the strike temporarily after the officials held talks and assured them to clear their dues.
It is said, that the Tiruchy Aavin unit functioning at Kottapattu in TIruchy has been handling around 1.20 lakh litres of milk through around 300 agents in Tiruchy, Karur, Perambalur, and Ariyalur districts. As many as 42 vans have been deployed to transport and distribute the milk to the agents.
These truck owners were said to have not received rent for the past four months and their repeated requests went unheard by the officials.
Finding no other option, the milk van owners and drivers went on a strike Tuesday late at night disrupting the distribution of Aavin milk packets in the four districts and adjacent places.
Since the milk distribution was affected, the Aavin officials held talks with the agitating van owners and drivers and assured them of releasing the funds. Convinced they temporarily withdrew the strike.
While speaking to the media, the Deputy General Manager (Aavin) Nagaraj said that they had settled the issue amicably and the distribution of milk would continue without any problem.
“We have warned them not to protest without any intimation and we will initiate action if they repeat it in the future,” Nagaraj said further.
