CHENNAI: Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president Vijay on Sunday launched a sharp attack on the ruling DMK government, accusing it of systemic corruption and fraudulent practices, flagging widespread corruption in State-run Tasmac liquor retail network.
Vijay vowed that despite the DMK's extravagant advertising campaigns, the people of the State would unequivocally reject the party in the upcoming 2026 Assembly elections.
Pointing out the ED raid at Tasmac premises and individuals connected to the liquor ‘monopoly’ across TN, Vijay said, The investigation exposed a web of corruption in its functioning. Irregularities ranging from the recruitment and transfer of employees to the allocation of vehicle tenders and the issuance of bar licenses have been exposed.
"The DMK's so-called advertising model is nothing more than a smokescreen, designed to distract the public from their deep-seated corruption. The ED's findings merely scratch on the surface of what is likely a much larger scandal," he accused.
Vijay also expressed his dismay at the extent of the corruption under the DMK administration, stating, "The history of the DMK is one of entrenched corruption, where those in power have managed to build vast empires of malfeasance. What the ED has uncovered is but a drop in the ocean. “
The TVK leader stressed the need for a fair and impartial investigation into the issue, insisting that all those involved, regardless of their position, must be held accountable.
Turning his attention to the upcoming Assembly elections, Vijay speculated that the illicit funds generated through these irregular practices could have played a significant role in the DMK's promises for electoral success.
He referred to the DMK's ambitious claim of securing 200 seats in the 2026 elections, suggesting that these promises were more about leveraging ill-gotten wealth than a genuine commitment to the electorate.
"But no matter how much money is spent, or how many crores are poured into these flashy advertising campaigns, the people of Tamil Nadu are no longer fooled. The DMK's corrupt tricks will not work anymore. I assure that the people will decisively reject them in the 2026 Assembly elections," he added.
