CHENNAI: Two youths died after their bikes collided head-on due to low visibility caused by fog near Maduranthakam in Chengalpattu district, on Tuesday morning.

The police identified the deceased as Vasanth (25), of Zamin Ennathur near Maduranthakam, and Jeeva Kumar (23), of Vanniyarpettai in Maduranthakam. Vasanth was working in a private firm.

Both Vasanth and Jeeva Kumar were travelling on separate bikes on Tuesday morning. According to the police, as heavy fog persisted in the morning, the low visibility resulted in the head-on collision of both vehicles while they were speeding on the Maduranthakam-Sunamedu Road. Both of them died on the spot.

On information, the Maduranthakam police visited the spot and sent the bodies for post-mortem examination. The police have registered a case and further inquiry is on.

In another incident, five vehicles collided in a series on the National Highway in Sriperumbudur in the morning due to the low visibility. Police said a car was speeding on the Bangalore Highway near Sriperumbudur, and stray cattle intercepted the road. In an attempt to avoid the cattle, the driver lost control of the vehicle and rammed into the median. Following that another car, two private buses, and a lorry collided in a series. Seven people who were travelling in the buses suffered injuries and they were taken to Sriperumbudur GH.
