CHENNAI: The Day 10 of the Paris Olympics didn’t go as some of the Indian contingents would’ve hoped as two bronze medals got away in badminton and mixed skeet shooting event. In the women’s table tennis group event, India defeated Romania in the round of 16 match and qualified to the quarter-finals . India’s Archana and Sreeja defeated the Romanian pair of Diaconu and Samara in the first match (11-9, 12-10, 11-7). The match went down the wire and at the end the experienced Manika Batra won the must-win game 5. Indian athlete Kiran Pahal came in seventh at the women’s 400m event. But she has another chance in the repechage round on Tuesday to qualify into the semi-finals. Wrestler Nisha Dahiya won against Ukraine’s Tetiana Rizhko in the Women's Freestyle 68 kg category, but unfortunately she lost to Pak Sol Gum of North Korea in quarters. Indian shooters Maheshwari Chauhan and Anant Jeet Naruka Singh narrowly missed out on a bronze medal, losing to China's Yiting Jiang and Jianlin Ku in the bronze medal match. The Indian duo had earlier finished fourth in the qualification round to secure their spot in the bronze medal match. Despite a strong effort, they ultimately fell short against their Chinese opponents. But the biggest disappointment came in badminton for India today as Lakshya Sen, who was all set to make history by becoming the only male shuttler to win an Olympic medal went down against Malaysia’s Lee Zii Jia. He won the first set (21- 13) against the Malaysian, but couldn’t fight in the next two (16- 21, 11- 21).
