The four-year partnership will cover eight tournaments including a Champions Trophy and two World Cups. As a global partner, MRF will have multiple branding opportunities at all match venues in all ICC events. Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, who is MRF’s brand ambassador, graced the occasion and said it was an honour to be associated with MRF. “My association with MRF started in 1987-88 and the partnership is still unbroken.
The sport needs sponsors like MRF and this big step by the organisation will go a long way in helping cricket grow,” Tendulkar said.
Talking about the T20 format, Tendulkar said T20 has changed the dynamics of the sport. “T20 has changed cricket big time. This format has helped us see a batsman reverse sweep a fast bowler which was unknown in the past.
The intensity of the format helps spectators and families bond over quality sporting action,” the 42-year-old legend added. ICC CEO, Dave Richarson said cricket is growing and he hoped to see the sport displace football as the most popular sport in the world.
“It is a positive sign to see the World T20 have both men and women teams participating. The era of Australian and English dominance in women’s cricket is over and we are happy to see New Zealand, South Africa, West Indies and Pakistan claiming stake to be the best in the world. ICC’s followers list on social media has crossed the 25 million mark and is on course to become the number one sport in the world,” the South African wicketkeeper batsman added.
