Santina in third straight Slam final

A day after finding herself as one of the recipients of the prestigious Padma Bhushan, Sania Mirza continued to rule the charts in Australia Open on Wednesday.

Melbourne

The Indian tennis ace and her partner Martina Hingis beat Julia Goerges and Karolina Pliskova in straight sets at Rod Laver Arena to enter their third successive doubles Grand Slam final. The Indo-Swiss pair took just under an hour to demolish the German-Czech pair 6-1, 6-0. 

Bopanna bows out of mixed doubles 

Third seeded pair Rohan Bopanna and Yung-Jan Chan were knocked out of the Australian Open mixed doubles, losing their quarter-final match 2-6, 5-7 against Treat Huey and Andreja Klepac, here on Wednesday. The Indo-Chinese Taipei pair went down in 54 minutes on the Show Court 2. 

Indian juniors disappoint: 

In the junior girls’ singles third round match, 10th seed Pranjala Yadlapalli lost to 8th seed Russian Anastasia Potapova 5-7, 5-7 while Karman Thandi lost 6-3, 5-7, 5-7 to Australian Sara Tomic.
