Top player of day: Sri Lanka vs Afghanistan WT20

Veteran Sri Lankan opener Tillakaratne Dilshan has proved that T20 is not just for the young. After single-handedly guiding the island nation towards a triumphant victory, against the equally spirited opposition, Dilshan has proved that experience plays a pivotal role in the shortest format too.

Dilshan despite his recent poor form in the warm up matches showed his expertise in performing when it mattered the most, during his match wining knock of 83.

“Two games I had two ducks, but I needed runs going into the big games. I'm really happy that I finished the game. 150 is a good total, this wicket is slow,” said Dilshan in the post-match press conference.

The blistering knocks of Afridi, Gayle and Dilshan, over the last two days, stands testimony to the fact that experience takes a pivotal role along with fearlessness in this format. The fact that the next highest score in the team belongs to Angelo Mathews with 21 (not out) is proof enough to show that Dilshan took the weight on his shoulders and performed well today.

Brief scores:

Afghanistan 153/7 in 20 overs (Asghar Stanikzai 62* (47), Samiullah Shenwari 31 (14) and Thisara Perera 3/33) lost to

Sri Lanka 155/4 in 18.5 overs (Dilshan 83* (56), Angelo Mathews 21* (10) and Mohammed Nabi 1/25).
