Husband goes bonkers as wife sizzles

The “Iron Lady” of swimming now owns some precious metal. Four years after missing the medal podium entirely in a bitterly disappointing London Olympics, Hungarian star Katinka Hosszu opened a redemptive Rio Games by dominating the 400-meter individual medley and smashing the world record.

Hosszu’s winning time of 4:26.36 put her easily ahead of silver medalist Maya DiRado (4:31.15) of the United States and bronze medalist Mireia Belmonte Garcia (4:32.39) of Spain. “I didn’t want to just break the record,” Hosszu said. “I wanted to crush it.” The swimmer narrowly missed setting a new world record in the 400-meter individual medley during the prelims on Saturday, and as she raced against the clock her husband went absolutely bananas in the stands.   Hosszu finished first place in her 400m individual medley heat, and nearly set a world record in the process. But one didn’t even have to watch the race to know how close she was — all one had to do was watch her husband. He went bonkers, pumping his fists and started jumping around as Hosszu crushed the existing record. Win or lose, surely all eyes will be on her husband.
