What do you think about TNPL?

Zaheer: A lot of leagues are happening on the domestic circuit. It’s a good platform for youngsters to showcase their talent. And, talent scouts will be keeping an eye on them. Growing up in Mumbai, I remember playing in small-level tournaments and I think match practice is the best practice. Talents never go a waste.

Irfan: A domestic league is very good not only for the cricketers but also for the fans in Chennai. The crowd in this city have always been supportive and they know their cricket. It would be exciting times for them ahead.

Nehra: There are many people who have told me T20 leagues kill cricket. However, on the contrary, I personally feel, these leagues give opportunity to youngsters. We could see how young cricketers in the IPL have got a lot of confidence by sharing the dressing room with big international players. I am sure there is a lot of unseen talent in Tamil Nadu too. By saying this, I want all these youngsters not forget first class and 50-over cricket.

What are your views on R Sathish?

Zaheer: He is a very keen learner. He always gives his 100% on the field which is a good trait. He has a good cricketing brain and has excellent skills to communicate with the team. He would be a good leader for CSG.

T20 is predominantly a batsmen’s game. What advice do you have for the bowlers bowling at the death overs?

Zaheer: I think T20 is becoming a bowlers’ game. If you see, bowlers are becoming the game-changers. And, death overs, it depends, something that never goes wrong in death overs are good yorkers.

What do you think the youngsters can learn from the league?

Irfan: The most important thing a youngster can learn is how to behave off the field. There are many things that one can learn by observing these big names go about in their duties. I learnt a lot about fitness just by watching Azhar bhai and the same goes with young players. You needn’t go and talk to any player to learn, mere observation will teach you many things.

Nehra: It gives an opportunity for youngsters to play first and learn. It shouldn’t be learn first and play. Learning is a continuous process. The youngsters have Vijay, Ashwin and Balaji and they can learn a lot from interacting with them. The only suggestion would be as a bowler is that one has to be smart enough.
