Indian Oil Corporation swamp Tamil Nadu

Defending champion Indian Oil Corporation scored a thumping 5-1 win over Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu in the All-India MCC-Murugappa Gold Cup Hockey Tournament at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium.

IOC played an attacking game right from the word go and scored three goals in the first 13 minutes. International V Raghunath scored in the second minute through a penalty-corner. Eight minutes later, Prabhjot Singh increased the margin through a field goal and then M Sanjay made it 3-0 through another field goal. Prabhjot Singh was again on target with another field goal as IOC built up a 4-0 lead in the 33rd minute. 

Hassan Basha reduced the margin for Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu in the 45th minute through a field goal. Deepak Thakur rounded off the tally through a field goal for IOC. ONGC meet Hockey Karnataka in the first match on Saturday followed by Punjab and Sind Bank taking on Indian Railways. BPCL will meet Mumbai Hockey Association in the third match.
