A group of coaches, led by A Srinivasa Rao and Muralidhara Rao met the MLA of Mylapore R Nataraj recently to request for a proper coaching centre to train the budding paddlers.
Speaking of his meeting with the MLA, Srinivasa said, “Table tennis has always been popular in Mylapore and we have been coaching since 1983. We have requested the MLA to help us find a place where we can set up a coaching centre, with more than eight tables, to ensure more youngsters can be trained in the sport. Currently, we don’t have enough places in Mylapore for table tennis despite many players like Chandrasekhar V, R Sekhar, Hari R, S Raman and many others hailing from this locality. We currently practise at Mylapore Sport Trust and have children from the age of four, playing table tennis. Only if we get more youngsters playing the game, can we discover talent and develop it further.”
Nataraj met the coaches and assured them of a positive response. Taking to social media, the MLA wrote, “A group of coaches led by Rao brothers represented for a proper coaching centre to give training to budding players. They were assured that this project will be taken up on priority.”
