Roma forward Francesco Totti kicks to score on a penalty against Sampdoria

The 39-year-old former Italy international has now scored in 23 consecutive league seasons for Roma. Sunday’s goal lifted the team to within two points of early leaders Juventus, who defeated Sassuolo 3-1 on Saturday.

Heavy rain delayed the start of the second half in Rome’s Olympic Stadium. The weather also hit Genoa’s home match against Fiorentina which was abandoned after 28 minutes, with the score at 0-0, because of a fierce hailstorm. Torino lost 2-1 at Atalanta after Hart misjudged a corner cross in the 56th minute, leaving space for Andrea Masiello to equalise for the home side.

Balotelli scores twice on Nice debut

Mario Balotelli lit up the Riviera derby with two goals on his Nice debut to hand them a 3-2 victory over Olympique Marseille — his first league goals for a year. The 26-year-old former Inter Milan and Manchester City striker opened the scoring from the penalty spot after seven minutes and struck again 12 minutes from full time when he headed home a Ricardo cross. Florian Thauvin cancelled out Balotelli’s opener and Bafetimbi Gomis put Marseille ahead.

Rashford needs time, says Ibrahimovic

Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic said young striker Marcus Rashford needed time and patience to allow him to develop his game. Rashford, 18, injected much-needed pace and energy into United’s attack after coming off the bench in their 2-1 loss to Manchester City on Saturday, almost scoring in the 70th minute only for the goal to be disallowed as it brushed Ibrahimovic who was offside.
