“As a team, we are really happy with our performance. One more game to go and we are almost through to the play-offs. This is what we aimed for right from the first day of the tournament. Our team is coming up together at the business end of the tournament – a really good sign for us,” he said.

It was opener Thalaivan Sargunam who led from the front in the last two matches for Chepauk Super Gillies with scintillating half-centuries that came in quick time. Subash said the openers have laid a strong foundation and made it easy for the middle order. “Both our openers are back in form and it is a good sign that it has come when it really matters the most,” Subash added.

The all-rounder said there are some areas the Super Gillies would need to work on before advancing to the last-four stage of the league. “We are losing a flurry of wickets and we must improve in that area. We are doing well as our batting and fielding is exceptional. We are one of the best fielding and bowling units in this league,” he added.

The Chepauk Super Gillies have stuck to a playing eleven and Subash said poor performance in a match or two won’t make any changes in the team. “We can’t drop players because of one or two bad games, as they can come good in the next one. At some point of the tournament, each one of us showed what we are really capable of. We won’t take any game lightly because we want to go into the play-offs with a positive mindset. But if the captain and coach think that some player needs a chance, then he obviously will play. This tournament is all about giving youngsters an opportunity to shine,” he added.

Subash said the stand-out moment of the match against Madurai Super Giants was the partnership between Sathish and Thalaivan.

“They kept the run-rate going and it was necessary given that we needed a score of 180.Even the catch (by U Sasidev) was fantastic,” he said.
