Ashwin first Indian to reach fastest 200 wickets
Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin got into the record books on Sunday when he became the second fastest bowler to claim 200 Test wickets. The Chennai bowler achieved the feat when he trapped New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson leg before in the visitors’ second innings, in his 37th Test. The 30-year-old has surpassed legends Waqar Younis and Dennis Lillee, who both took 38 Tests.

The No.1 spot is held by former Australia leg-spinner Clarrie Grimmett, who took just 36 Tests to get to the 200th wicket mark.
Before Ashwin ran through the New Zealand top-order, India declared their second innings at 377 for five, with four batsmen scoring half-centuries. After M Vijay (76) and C Pujara (78) put on 133 for the second wicket, Rohit Sharma (68 not out) and Ravindra Jadeja (50 not out) added an unbeaten 100 for the sixth wicket when skipper Virat Kohli declared the innings closed.
The declaration left Kiwis with a daunting task of scoring 434 for a win and were left in tatters at 93 for 4 at stumps on day four.
Ashwin is the ninth Indian bowler to take 200 wickets in Tests and also the ninth highest wicket-taker for the country in a list lead by current coach Anil Kumble with 619 wickets. Earlier, the fastest Indian in the list was Harbhajan Singh, who completed the feat in 46 Tests while Kumble reached the milestone in 47 Tests.
Ashwin was the fastest to hit the 100 wickets milestone as well, achieving it in 18 Tests.
