You have been an ace badminton player. How did you turn to yoga?

About two decades ago, I suffered from pneumonia during my university badmin ton days, forcing me to take a break from the sport for over six months. I took up yoga to recover and went on to achieve number two rank in the Indian mixed doubles. I realised the importance of yoga in sports and decided to pursue it wholeheartedly. Now I work with the Indian badminton team and teach them the role of yoga in fitness.

When and how did you plan to start the Yoga World Festival?

Yoga World Festival is the first-ofits-kind in India, which brings different lineage of yoga schools, will focus on sports yoga techniques and sports science for various sports. I had a research team to work on logistics, ideal time and venue for the festival.

What can one expect at this festival?

Over 50 yoga acharyas will travel from across the globe for the five-day festival. They will take sessions and conduct demos. In addition, there will be lectures and conference. We will also carry out a Guinness World Record attempt for most number of people doing sirasasana at the same time.
