Tamil Nadu were off to a horrid start losing openers Washington Sundar and skipper Abhinav Mukund for no score. A 54-run partnership for the third wicket between Vijay Shankar (41), who is playing his first Ranji match of the season, and Gandhi and a 144-run partnership for the fourth between Gandhi and Karthik revived TN’s hopes.

Gandhi showed tremendous character to build his innings of 71 in 232 balls with 11 fours. B Indrajith (44*) was giving company to Gandhi when stumps were drawn for the day.
