US experience was great: Kullar

“The Indo-American PGA was a great experience. We got to play on some amazing golf courses at eight different venues in the US. This went a long way in helping us to learn to adapt to varied conditions that one cannot experience in India,” said Kullar, who took part in the Southern swing of Chennai Open and the KGA event in Bengaluru this month. 

The IAPGA is the brainchild of pro golfer Gurbaaz Mann. The idea is to give Indian professional golfers the opportunity to compete in the US and to try and make it to the Web.com tour and eventually the PGA Tour. The IAPGA got huge support from the Indian community in the US and also from sponsors ECU Worldwide, DLF and Take Solutions. 

The two winners Amardip Malik and Kullar were funded to compete in the web.com tour qualifying school this year.

Kullar did not have a good fortnight in the south. “I started very well at the Chennai Open and was at second position after round two. However, I could not keep up the momentum and finished 10th. The Madras Gymkhana Club is a unique course with no trees but knee deep rough to penalise wayward shots. It was also very windy that week,” he said. “The Take Open in KGA had one of the best fields of the year. This included top golfers like Jyoti Randhawa, Rahil Gangjee, Rashid Khan and the inform Chikkarangappa. The KGA course was in immaculate condition sporting very speedy greens. I didn’t get off to a great start in this one and was playing catch up all week. I finished tied for 36th position.”

Kullar’s next Asian Tour event will be the Panasonic Open at the Delhi Golf Club course, which suits his style of play. He hopes to improve his Rolex standings where he is climbing every year.
