Tamil Nadu girls bag three gold medals

The girls won the first three gold medals for Tamil Nadu in the 32nd national junior athletics championship here on Friday, the second day of the five-day event. Tamil Nadu won six medals, including a silver and two bronze medals that placed the state fourth among the 22 states competing for the championship.

J. Coleshiya of Tirunelveli bagged the first gold for the State in the under 14 Triathlon. She covered 100 meters in 12.97 seconds, before measuring 4.95 m in the long jump and 6.55 m in the shot put. A. Nisha Banu of Salem won the gold in the under-20 girl’s pole vault by jumping 3.3 metres. N. Hemamalini threw the javelin for 45.26 metres to bag the gold in the girl’s Under 18 category. This was a comfortable 2.16 metres more than Sanjana Choi of Rajasthan who came second. Two national records and three meet records were broken in the Under 18 Boy’s hammer throw. Ashish Jakhar of Haryana broke his record 72.04 metres that he set in April 2015, by throwing the hammer for 75.45 metres.
