Volleyball camp in full swing

More than 150 budding volleyball players from Chennai and Tiruvallur districts gathered at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium, Chennai for the Annual Volleyball coaching camp conducted by Nellai Friends Club and Dr Sivanthi Club.

The 21-day camp commenced on April 26 and will go on till May 16. The players are being trained under the guidance of AK Chithraipandian, a former International volleyball player. 

This camp is being organised free of cost for the 35th time and is sponsored by Thanthi TV, San Media, COSCO and Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu. The players are being trained in various basic attributes such as rules, fitness, skill, movement, ball touch etc. 

The camp aims to develop volleyball among school children, especially those aged between 10 -15 years. The camp is divided into three groups based on the age of the students. The coaching panel comprises 10 coaches which includes a few former Indian International players like Dinakaran, Jagadeesan and Kesavan. 

The duration of training is for two hours, starting at 6.30 am and extending up to 8:30 am. Refreshments like milk and biscuits are provided to the players at the end of every session. The players will receive certificates and jerseys at the end of the coaching camp. 

Nellai Friends Club has a Memorandum of Understanding with the Government of Tamil Nadu to develop the sport of Volleyball all over the state.
