Triple gold for Selena in Egypt
Young paddler Selena Selvakumar won a triple gold medal at the Egypt Junior and Cadet Open Table Tennis Championship.

The 17-year-old Chennai girl won singles and doubles gold medal apart from the team championship gold. Top seeded Selena had to fight her way to the singles’ gold though, with her last two matches against the Alhodaby sisters going all the way. She first overcame eighth-seeded Mariam Alhodaby 4-3 (11 -9, 11-8, 1012, 8-11, 11-8, 5-11, 11-5) in the semi-final. In the final, she beat second seeded Marwa Alhodaby 4-3 (11-5, 12-10, 8-11, 6-11, 11-3, 6-11, 11-4). Selena paired up with Nigeria’s Esther Oribamise in the doubles and beat Egypt-Greek duo of Farida Badawy and Malamatenia Papadimitriou 3-2 (11-8, 12-10, 9-11, 8-11, 11-9) in the final to clinch the gold. In the semi-finals, the duo beat Egypt’s Sarah Abousetta and Tunisia’s Abir Haj Sarah 11 7, 4-11, 13-11, 9-11, 12-10.
Deepan Raj guides Monrose CC to victory
Excellent bowling figures of 4/16 from Deepan Raj guided Monrose CC to a comfortable victory over Metro CC in a TNCA- Vellore District Cricket Association first division league game. Metro CC was restricted to a meagre 96 after an outstanding overall bowling effort from Monrose CC. Arcot CC and Blue Star CC snapped up easy wins against Eagle CC and MS CC respectively in the third division league games.
Brief scores: 1st Division: Metro CC 96 all out in 34 overs (K. Padmanabhan 3/25, D. Deepan Raj 4/16) lost to Monrose CC 97 for 7 in 27 overs (R. Dhinesh 32, M.S. Sivakumar 4/32) 3rd division: MS CC 97 all out in 22 overs (P. Ramesh 25, S. Thirunavukkarasu 3/22) lost to Blue Star CC 98 for 8 in 24.5 overs (R. Arvindraj 29, K. Vinoth 3/6) Arcot CC 158 for 6 in 25 overs (S. Yokeshkumar 54, K. Vigneshkumar 34) beat Eagle CC 85 all out in 24 overs (P. Sathish 3/16, S. Vignesh 3/16).
