It was easy to sense the excitement ringing aloud in DT Chandrasekar’s voice upon hearing the news of his Ranji Trophy call-up for the Tamil Nadu team in its last league engagement against Baroda beginning on November 25.

After slipping off the radar and getting estranged from his first love of representing TN for two years, Chandrasekar wants to make his presence felt with his team wallowing in the mire of a scramble for some precious points. TN needs an outright win and could also do with some divine providence if it is to qualify for the knockout stages.
Interestingly, it was against the same opponent that Chandrasekar made his debut two years ago. And what is more, it was a memorable outing as he finished with six wickets in the match to help his team scrape past Baroda by a slender margin of seven runs. How he, and more pertinently his team, would dearly love for history to repeat itself.
“My coach at Jolly Rovers, Bharat Reddy, alerted me three days ago to get prepared for an important assignment. I could gauge that I would be back in the reckoning for the Ranji team. I’m delighted that I would get a chance to impress the coach Hrishikesh Kanitkar, under whom I have never played thus far,” said the recently turned 25-year-old.
His return to the TN fold is not a surprise considering how he has been knocking on the selectors’ door with his stellar performances for Jolly Rovers in this season’s TNCA First Division League.
“I have been doing consistently well for my club. This season, I have taken 25 wickets from six matches and worked myself up into a good rhythm which is very important for a bowler. My confidence is also high and I have proved that I belong to this level when I first played taking 18 wickets from five matches at a good average,” added Chandrasekar.
As for Tamil Nadu, it will hope that Chandrasekar will bring with him glad tidings in a contest that could either prolong its stay or see it end even before it began.
