The first half was goalless with visitor Germany enjoying bulk of the possession. The host held its nerve and kept the Rio Olympics bronze medallist quiet during that passage of play. Martin Haner opened the account for the Germans in the 17th minute after depositing the ball into the bottom right corner courtesy of a penalty corner.
Germany doubled its lead through Mats Garmbusch in the 20th minute, whose shot deflected of an Indian, hitting the roof of the net. Its excellent passing moves finally got its reward. India’s luck went in vain in the penultimate 15 minutes of play, with it not managing to get one past the German goalkeeper.
