Chennaiyin FC aims to make it three in a row

Coming on the back of successive wins against NorthEast United FC and FC Pune City, Chennaiyin FC would aim to make it a hat-trick of victories when it hosts two-time champion ATK at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in an Indian Super League clash here on Thursday.

A win for the home side would help it cement its spot at the top while the visitor would look to leapfrog a few positions in the league standings. Despite not being at its fluent best, John Gregory’s men pocketed three valuable points from its first away encounter courtesy of a thumping header from skipper Henrique Sereno.

Chennaiyin FC tactician Gregory looks to have found the right combination and personnel with one of its key members, Raphael Augusto, playing in an advanced position. The idea of tweaking to a traditional back line of four defenders has worked wonders as the side is yet to concede a goal after its disastrous opening half in the first game against FC Goa.

Iberian duo of Sereno and Jaime Gavilan would look to give their former side ATK the blues, after combining to snatch an 82nd minute winner at the Balewadi Stadium, Pune.

Local lad Dhanpal Ganesh looks to have rediscovered his rhythm under the new manager. He has relished his opportunities after failing to make it to the starting eleven in any of the games in the previous edition.

The ISL Season 3 winner ATK has had a lacklustre start to its campaign, managing only two points from its initial three games. The side has so far put up a lackadaisical performance in the final third with Bipin Singh scoring its solitary goal. The unavailability of Republic of Ireland’s Robbie Keane through injury has also piled on its misery.

Former Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur ace Teddy Sheringham has faced a difficult start to his managerial career in the country, failing to register a win thus far.

The only encouraging stat has been its ability to keep two clean sheets after the completion of the third round of matches. The Sourav Ganguly co-owned team’s attacking prowess was dealt a huge blow ahead of the season after it lost its vital cogs in the forward line to fellow rivals in the transfer market.
