Hindustan, PS Senior SS qualify for Nationals

Hindustan University and PS Senior Secondary School of Chennai notched up victories to reserve their places in the National Championship of the Reliance Foundation Youth Sports football tournament in Hyderebad.

Riding on a 20th minute goal from Ugyen Dorji, Hindustan overcame a gritty St Joseph College of Commerce (Bengaluru) 1-0 in the College Boys’ category. This is its second victory in the zonals, that pitted the city champion from Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Chennai.

PS Senior too won both its matches to advance. It beat Greenwood High International School (Bengaluru) 3-1 in an exciting clash in the School Girls’ division. Chadomaye M (20th), Dhriti B (21st) and Sneha R (50th) were the stars for the winners while Bhumika Rai (33rd scored a consolation goal for Greenwood.

The two other Chennai teams, Evaans Matric HSS and St Gabriel’s HSS, however, exited from the championship, despite a good showing.

Evaans’ Senior Boys fought to earn a 1-1 draw against Al-Ameen Pre-University College (Bengaluru) but bowed out on goal difference.

Both teams won one match and drew one to be locked on 4 points. But the Chennai team had scored only 4 and conceded 2 while the Bengaluru team had 6 goals to its credit and 1 against.

RESULTS

College Boys: Hindustan University (Chennai) bt St Joesph College Of Commerce (Bengaluru) 1-0; Senior Boys: Evaans Matric HSS (Chennai) drew with Al-Ameen Pre-University College (Bengaluru) 1-1

Junior Boys: St Gabriel’s HSS (Chennai) lost to Army Public School PRTC (Bengaluru) 1-4; School Girls: PS Senior Secondary School (Chennai) bt Greenwood High International School (Bengaluru) 3-1
