Bengal began the second innings on Tuesday trailing Delhi by 112 runs. However, it collapsed in a heap to lose its first four wickets for just 39 runs. Sudip Chatterjee (21) tried to hold the innings together before he fell to Navdeep.
To make matters worse, Writtick Chatterjee (1) was run-out on the back of a terrible mix-up with Manoj Tiwary (14). Tiwary attempted the second run via an overthrow but Chatterjee yelled a loud ‘no’.
Tiwary, though, kept running and both batsmen found themselves at the same end, with Chatterjee sacrificing his wicket. Tiwary himself didn’t last long as he was castled by Saini as Bengal slid further to 60 for 6.
Shreevats Goswami (17) added a few useful runs down the order but Bengal continued to lose wickets at regular intervals and was bowled out. Only four batsmen reached double-digit scores for the East Zone side.
Earlier, Mohammed Shami’s six-fer gave Bengal a slim chance of bouncing back as Delhi lost its last seven wickets for 118 runs and was cleaned up for 398 in its first essay. Kunal Chandela (113) and Gautam Gambhir (127) cracked hundreds for them.
Himmat Singh (60) also made a vital contribution down the order. The seven-time Ranji Trophy champion will either lock horns with Vidarbha or Karnataka in the final that is slated to begin in Indore on December 29.
