India to field 227-member contingent at Gold Coast Games

India will be sending a 227-sportsperson strong contingent for the upcoming 2018 Commonwealth Games (CWG) at Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, Indian Olympic Association (IOA) chief Narinder Dhruv Batra announced at an event here on Monday.

At the event, which also witnessed the participation of Union Sports Minister Col Rajyavardhan Rathore, the IOA also announced Raymond as the official styling partner of the Indian contingent to the CWG, Asian and Olympic games as well as Sportswear brand Shiv Naresh as sports apparel partner.

"India will field a strong 227-member contingent in the Gold Coast games, which will consist of 123 male while 104 women sportsperson. In the history of CWG, it will be India's second largest ever contingent," said Batra.

Significantly, athletics will feature the most number of 37 players followed by Hockey's 36.

"We bagged 64 medals in the last 2014 Glasgow CWG. But, this time we are confident that the medals tally will increase further," added the IOA chief.
