Income Tax holds Arrows FC in the CFA Senior Division League

Income Tax, which barely managed to avoid relegation last season, dominated the proceedings but failed to make that dominance count. Income Tax was well served by its forward H Ameerudeen who was a constant threat whenever he had the possession of the ball. But Ameerudeen was also guilty of missing a couple of easy chances that would have given his team a winning start.

It might not have got the result it wanted but there were some positives for Income Tax to take away from its drawn encounter against Arrows. Wayne D’Silva and Mijo Jose produced an excellent show denying Arrows a clear-cut chance for the majority of the match.

Arrows, which is back in the senior division after gaining promotion from the First Division, too, had its moments but, much like its opponent, it wasted whatever limited chances came its way.

Arrows manager, K Thiagarajan, said his team couldn’t play its normal game because of inadequate preparation. 

“The two foreigners in our team who are from Liberia arrived only on Sunday. We didn’t have much time to assemble the team heading into the league. But even with all the problems we are facing, I’m confident we can secure a place in the top four,” said Thiagarajan. 

The Arrows manager added that the league has become more competitive this year which makes it tough to predict the winner. “As always the private clubs will hold a clear edge over the institutional teams. But I feel this time all the teams look evenly-matched and every point will be crucial in determining the final outcome,” opined Thiagarajan.

The season’s opening match was an entertaining affair as Chennai City FC scored a goal through Edwin Sydney in the dying minutes of the match to secure a 2-2 draw against Indian Bank.
