He scored 36 runs off N Harish in the 32nd over, finishing with an unbeaten 40 off 17 balls in the Third Division match. He helped his team cruise to 148 in 32.3 overs with five wickets in hand. “I am naturally a big-hitting batsman. People around me used to ask if it was possible for me to hit six sixes in an over. I have always dreamt of achieving this feat,” said Sabari.
The right-hander amassed 199 runs in his eight innings this season, with a top score of 55 not out.
He began his six-hitting spree by sending the first ball in the historical over over long on. He then bludgeoned it twice towards mid-wicket. Sabari smashed the fourth and fifth deliveries to long on and long off respectively and to top it all, he lifted the last one straight down the ground.
“I am very happy to have done it and a lot of credit will have to go to my coach Filbert Kennedy who has backed me throughout,” added the lower middle-order batsman. To add to his hard-hitting prowess, the Kanyakumari-born lad is also good at generating good pace with the ball. He stood first at state-level in the Scorpio Speedster competition in 2004.
He finished third at the all-India level in the same year, clocking a speed of 136 kmph. It was former Rising Pune Supergiant fast bowler Ashoke Dinda who topped the chart during that event. He was frustrated as none of the Tamil Nadu Premier League franchises showed interest in picking him in the previous edition.
“I had registered myself for TNPL Season 2 but I felt very bad as none of the teams picked me during the draft. I was let down by it and hence I have not registered my name for the upcoming edition (in July),” explained the all-rounder.
“I would like to thank my coach, family and family friend Kumar for supporting me through my ups and downs,” concluded Sabari, who works as a guard with Southern Railway.
