England squares series with innings win

England had got a lead of 189 runs as it was bowled out for 363 with Jos Buttler remaining unbeaten on 80. Pakistan did not have a decent start in the second innings as it lost three wickets before it could reach 50 with James Anderson taking the first two.

Then off-spinner Bess came to the party and took a wicket each in the three spells he bowled on either side of the tea interval.

Sam Curran dismissed Shadab Khan for his only wicket in the innings but he got the distinction of taking Khan’s wicket in both the innings.

Bess sent back Imam-ul Haq in his first over as the Pakistani played and missed a straight ball on the off-stump and fell lbw. That was his first Test wicket. He then got rid of Faheem Ashraf who went for a big heave and top-edged a catch to Dawid Malan at backward point. Usman Salahuddin was his third wicket and that completed a good debut for the off-spinner.

After that Broad took over as Hasan Ali pushed away from his body and Alastair Cook, after a brief glance towards Jonny Bairstow, dived to his left to come up with a good catch.

Mohammad Abbas fell to Broad as England came back strongly into the series with a telling win.

Pakistan had won the first Test at Lord’s to take a 1-0 lead in the two-match series.
